외장 프리를 처음 구입해 보는지라 이왕이면 조언을 한 번 구해보고 결정하려고 며칠전에 200 이내로 구입할 수 있는 프리 추천을 부탁드린다는 글을 이곳과 큐오넷에 올렸었습니다.
댓글로 말씀해주신 제품들을 죽 보니 포커스라이트 제품 하나 빼고는 대부분 니브의 복각 제품들을 말씀하시더군요. 이왕 사는 거 무리해서라도 니브 브랜드를 달고 있는 제품으로 갈까 했지만 ams-neve의 1073 시리즈가 의외로 좋지 않은 평이 많이 보이더군요 -_-a 다른 1073 베이스의 프리들을 검색해 보니 vintech의 x73i라는 제품이 평도 그럭저럭 괜찮아 보이고 가격도 적당한 것 같아서 유심히 보고 있습니다
그런데 vintech 제품 중 x73이라는 것도 있고 x73i라는 것도 있더군요. 검색을 해 보니 소리는 동일한데 이큐가 약간 다르고 x73i에는 임피던스 조절 옵션이 달려 있다고 하네요. 그런데 이상하게도 x73의 가격이 x73i보다 더 비쌉니다. 소리가 동일하고 오히려 기능이 더 달려있는 x73i가 더 싼 이유가 궁금해지더군요
혹시 x73이 단종되고 x73i가 가격을 낮춰서 후속으로 나온건가 했는데 제조사 홈페이지에 가 보니 두 제품 모두 떡하니 판매되고 있는 현역 모델입니다 -_-a 무슨 이유로 x73이 더 고가의 모델인 것일까요?
지금 생각으로는 그냥 처음 생각했던 tone beast를 구입하던지 아니면 vintech의 x73i 정도로 좁혀진 상태입니다. bae의 1073mp나 1073mpf도 조금 고려를 했었는데(이유는 모르겠지만 그냥 1073은 너무 비싸더군요 -_-;;) 아무래도 vintech 제품이 사람들 입에 더 많이 오르내리는 것 같네요. 인지도 차이가 있는 듯하여 일단 vintech쪽으로 기울어진 상태입니다
글이 좀 정리가 안되는데요 ^^;; 질문은 두 가지입니다
(1) 소리가 동일하고 기능상 옵션이 더 붙어있는 x73i보다 x73이 더 비싼 이유가 무엇인가요?
(2) 만약 1073 계열의 제품으로 결정할 경우 vintech x73i(혹은 x73)가 괜찮은 선택이 될까요? 아니면 추천해주실만한 다른 특정 모델이 있으신가요. 원래는 200 이내의 가격대로 생각하고 있었지만 지금은 조금 오버하는 경우도 생각을 하고 있습니다

Well, there are five differences between them. First, the X73 and the X73i have slightly differing EQ points. The regular X73 has more points in the highs, the X73i has more points in the mids.
Second, the X73i has a 300/1200 ohm switch...the more expensive X73 does not. The 300/1200 ohm switch will yield more variety as different mics have different frequency curves and distortion amounts depending on the impedance input of the preamp.
Third, the X73i and X73 have different switches (the things sitting directly behind the knobs on the front panel). The X73i utilizes Greyhill switches, found in many of today's quality gear, like Millennia Media and Great River for example. The X73 utilizes hand soldered point to point Swiss-made Elma switches. The actual Elma switch in the X73 looks somewhat like a minature jet-engine, it's very complex and small, the labor involved in the soldering of the Elma switches takes several extra hours to complete per unit. The Elma switches themselves are very expensive. There isn't a "sound" difference between a Greyhill switch and an Elma switch.
Fourth, The X73i has 2 transformers, the X73 has three. The X73i utilizes one of the transformers twice. Essentially, one of the transformers is doing double duty, this is actually not a new practice and can be found in old Neve units. The reduced cost of having one less transformer is reflected in the price to the user.
Last, but not least, is the price tag. The X73 currently sells for about $1980.00 with PSU, and the X73i sells for $1550.00 with PSU. There is a $430 difference there. For many engineers, to spend the extra $430 may be a luxury, considering that they get the same, or what some consider more, with an X73i.
Given these differences, although they are slight, I find that the X73i is actually more versatile in it's midrange EQ. Compare an original Neve 1073 at approximately $3500 per mono line channel, to the new X73i at $1350 plus $200 for PSU, making it $1550 per mono line channel, and you will find that there 1,950 reasons to consider the X73i, that is -- $1950 dollars saved.
