Some wafter lock cylinders (especially certain Chicago-brand locks) are double bitted, with some wafers making contact with the key at the top of the keyway and others at the bottom. This is called a mokugyo, and it’s a sort of wooden drum which, as you heard, makes an extremely effective noise that can be heard for a very long way. An alternative technique, which I have not seen mentioned in the literature, is to first determine which pin stacks have security pins and which have regular pins (by picking normally and noting which stacks are false set). The word "meditation," in English, doesn’t have quite the same meaning. You don’t think of the meaning of it, you see, because you can’t think of the meaning of God. Much more wonderful. But, you see, you can’t conceive reality. The usual scheme for master keying involves using more than one cut in some or all pin stacks (this is accomplished by adding additional pin segments). Get in the habit of making a systematic "inventory" of the states of the pin stacks after you set each new pin. Spend a lot of time playing with the three pin lock so that you can recognize the pin states easily and naturally. Practice distinguishing between the pin states and then finish picking the cylinder. Picking these locks involves putting torque on the locking bolt and raising the gates to the correct height. Raking, in contrast, is a class of picking techniques in which several pin stack may be set at the shear line simultaneously.

Because there are two independent shear lines, there is no way to control, or even tell, at which shear line a given pin stack sets. It’s your way of life. It’s a little bit like that, but language is so structured that I cannot talk without this implication. Because when we talk of someone meditating, we think of deeply pondering about something. They are signs. But if you take words too seriously, you’re like a person who climbs a signpost instead of going where it points. A crazy person might get by accident into some of these states, and get so lost that he wouldn’t know how to come back to the world of ordinary normal conventions.
