A young father-of-one said he 'didn't want any trouble' before he was allegedly stabbed to death by two brothers following a row in a Royal British Legion club over the age of one of his attackers, jurors heard today.

Draven and Garon Jewell are accused of murdering fisherman Max Maguire, 23, and attacking two of his friends in an alleyway outside the private members' club where they had all been drinking on October 22 last year.

Adam Feest QC, prosecuting, told Winchester Crown Court today that the two defendants were among two groups of people drinking at the club in Lymington who loosely knew each other. 

Jurors heard that tensions rose in the garden area after Garon Jewell, 19, was 'rude' to Mr Maguire and friend Luke Gray after they had asked how old he was.

The prosecutor alleged that another cause of the disagreement between the groups came after friend Georgia Hole's partner asked if he could buy a nitrous oxide canister - laughing gas - which Draven Jewell, 21, had found earlier and had brought with him.

Mr Feest said Garon Jewell then called Ms Hole's mother a 'w***e or a s***' as he left when the club closed.

In a 20-second attack outside the club at around midnight, Draven Jewell then allegedly swung a 14cm-long Huusk knife around 'like a wild animal' and stabbed Mr Maguire, puncturing his left lung. He then allegedly knifed Mr Gray and Ms Hole, both 23.

Mr Maguire, from Pennington, collapsed and died after stumbling into the bar, while his friends were rushed to hospital.

Prosecutors allege that despite Draven Jewell inflicting the injuries, Garon Jewell was 'just as involved'.

Garon and Draven Jewell deny murder and manslaughter of Mr Maguire, and they also both deny two charges of wounding Mr Gray and two charges wounding Ms Hole. Draven Jewell has already pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.

Mr Feest said Mr Gray suffered two serious wounds to his lower back which required emergency hospital treatment and Ms Hole suffered a less serious injury to her chest.

The prosecutor continued: 'Max said to Luke 'I don't want no trouble'. Max and Luke come back down the alleyway to get Georgia.

'At this stage the two defendants were coming up the alleyway having been ushered out by the manager. Garon had been somewhat confrontational with the staff. By the time they get close to Luke and Max coming the other way, Garon and Draven are more or less side by side.

'Then, shortly before midnight, a short but violent incident took place in an alleyway from the high street to the club.'

He added: 'Draven will assert that he was acting in self-defence of himself and another and that using the knife was reasonable in all the circumstances.

'Garon will say he was the victim of the violence, that he was unaware of any weapon and took no part in the violence himself.'

The court was told that Draven Jewell was captured on CCTV dropping a chef's knife and picking it up again as he entered the club. Crying could be heard from the public gallery as footage of the incident was shown to the jury.

Draven Jewell has pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon but, with his brother, denies murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter of father-of-one Mr Maguire.

The older defendant also denies the attempted murder of Mr Gray and, with his brother, two alternative charges of wounding Mr Gray.

The brothers, from Lymington, also face two alternative wounding charges relating to Ms Hole.

The defendants claim to have acted in 'lawful self-defence', the court heard.

Mr Maguire's family said in a statement released through Hampshire police: 'Anyone Max ever met fell in love with him instantly. He would have you in tears of laughter. With a heart of gold, he would help anyone in need.

'Max was an amazing father to his beautiful daughter Delilah Daisy. Her father has been robbed from her.'

The trial continues.
